Wedding transportation is one of those elements that can be a little tricky. Although most brides dream of arriving in a stretch limousine with a chauffeur to open the door as you arrive at the church or at your reception hall, the reality is that such conveyances cost a lot of money. Unless you have budgeted for a fleet of Cadillacs to drive you and your wedding party around all day, you might have to make alternate arrangements for transportation. The one thing you must keep in mind, is that neither you nor your fiancé nor any of your bridal party should have to drive.
Limos, Caddies and Jaguars – oh my!
Yes, there is something magical about arriving at your wedding in an expensive, chauffeured vehicle, the kind of which you might have always dreamt. However, you have to be prepared to shell out the kind of money that such things require. One way to mitigate the costs of renting fancy cars is to only rent one high-end vehicle for yourself and your fiancé and then rent nice, but less costly vehicles for the rest of your wedding party. Another cost-saving idea is to rent the cars and then appoint designated drivers from among your (responsible) friends, thereby saving on the cost of a chauffeur. However, if you do not want to burden your friends with such a responsibility then you might have to invest in a chauffeur.
Special conveyances
Some brides have always dreamed of arriving in a horse drawn carriage to their wedding. Naturally, if this is an option you want to explore, then you will first have to locate such a service in your area and then get clearance from your local authorities so that your horse drawn carriage is permitted on the streets down which it will have to go in order to get from your home to your destination. You will then still have to arrange for transportation for the rest of your wedding party.
Regardless of the special conveyance that you have in mind, making sure you get the right permits to make it happen is important – or you might find yourself being stopped for an infraction at the worst possible time in your life!
Getting home
After your reception you will have to find a way to get home safely. Most rental places will only take you from your house to the ceremony and then to the reception hall. They will not wait around until after the party to take you home. You can always arrange for a friend to drive your car to the reception hall so that you can drive yourself home afterwards, but the most logical thing to do is to arrange for someone to drive you home – after all, you are not likely to be in any shape to drive! If you are unwilling to designate a driver for the evening, then keep some money aside for calling a taxi after the reception to get you home safely. Just remember that transportation will mean getting to and from your reception.
